LACMA to organize Isaac Julien’s first LA solo presentation

The museum recently announced three new exhibitions to open to public in May, including a solo of artist and filmmaker Isaac Julien. On view from May 5th through August 11th, the exhibition showcases one of Julien’s most recognized works—Playtime.

The film has been exhibited at Fort Mason, San Francisco (2017), Platform-L Contemporary Arts Center, Seoul (2017); and Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo, Mexico City (2016); as well as other venues around the world as video installation. The work features actors James Franco, Maggie Cheung, and Mercedes Cabral, as well as Swiss auctioneer Simon de Pury. From perspective of different characters—the Artist, the Hedge Fund Manager, the Auctioneer, the House Worker, the Art Dealer, and the Reporter, the work unrolls a captivating critique of the influence of capital on the art market. Save the date, as browse through other new offerings of LACMA this spring!
