Cannes Film Festival is in Town
The 69th Film Festival in Cannes kicked off on May 11th and it's just getting hotter at one of the main movie industry events. From the debates about who steals the thunder at the red carpet full of Hollywood celebrities showing off the best of looks, to the most anticipated films and the pivotal first weekend, full of surprises.
The race for Cannes' top prize, the Palme d'Or won't be decided until the festival ends on May 22nd, but one thing is for sure: the condenting films are very diverse this year to say the least. The expectations are running high, while renowned directors like Xavier Dolan, Jim Jarmush, Ashgar Farhadi, Xavier Dolan, Ken Loach and many more join the race for the desired trophy. Other countries with a strong filmmaking tradition, such as Iran and Romania also present their films.
Bets are on weather Pedro Almodóvar, who is a regular of the most important festivals of its kind, will finally get his Palme d’Or. George Miller, a Mad Max director is heading the jury of Kisrten Dunst, Donald Sutherland, Vanessa Paradis, Arnaud Desplechin and others, who take the weight of a festival decision on their shoulders.
But there’s a lot more to Cannes than the competition and the trophy: screenings, loud premiers and renowned series such as ‘Un Certain Regard’. Cannes has seen the birth of stars and this year won’t be an exception, bringing the outstanding young directors and talent to the light.
